The NOAA Data Strategy is undergoing a rapid refresh update from its 2020 iteration, concurrent with updates to the Artificial Intelligence, Cloud, and High-Performance Computing strategies. Join us to participate in this open forum discussing current developments and the future direction of these strategies. Speakers include Commerce Chief Data Officer Oliver Wise, NOAA Chief Data Officer Tony LaVoi, Director of NCAI Rob Redmond, NOAA Cloud Program Officer Ajith Abraham, and NOAA Chief Technology Officer Frank Indiviglio.

The primary duties of the Assistant Chief Information Officers encompass the leadership of enterprise-wide Information Technology endeavors and initiatives, the support of the Department of Commerce and NOAA Office of the Chief Information Officer IT Portfolio Management Strategy to ensure the efficacy and efficiency of IT expenditures and programs, and the provision of oversight to Line Office IT Workforce Management Plans, including the recruitment of IT specialists. This session will serve as a forum for the NOAA community to engage with IT executives, share priorities and concerns, and bridge the communication gap between IT and science. Speakers include Malan Dalal (NESDIS), Nancy Majower (NMFS), Lemuel Thomas (NOS), Beckie Koonge (NWS), Trey Young (OMAO), and Jeremy Warren (OAR).

The Data Management Handbook, issued in October of 2024, serves as a guiding resource for NOAA data managers, analysts, and scientists, through facilitation of data management practices in alignment with NOAA's role as a leading Federal agency for open data and science. Attendees are invited to a plenary session featuring Assistant Chief Data Officers, where they can engage in discussions and pose inquiries regarding the handbook, its implementation, its utilization, and the officers' broader responsibilities. Speakers include Megan Cromwell (NOS), Courtney Thompson (OMAO), Amy Biggs (OAR), Jessica Morgan (NESDIS), Nori Shoji (NMFS), Maria Sims (NWS), and Joe Fillingham (OCIO/CDO).

NOAA’s mission is to understand and predict our changing environment, from the deep sea to outer space, and to manage and conserve America’s coastal and marine resources. Multi-billion dollar events are occurring at an increasing rate, with the annual average for the most recent 5 years (2020–2024) being events (CPI-adjusted). Join the plenary session to hear and ask questions about what the current gaps NOAA has with disaster resilience and what we can do to close them. 
Speakers include Becky Lizama from NOAA’s Senior Tribal Liaison’s, Joe Pica Deputy Director NCEI, Daryl Kleist Chief of Data Assimilation at National Centers for Environmental Prediction, Matt Corey from Microsoft Weather, and Monica Youngman Chief Scientist of the NWS Office of Science and Technology Integration.
